Two years ago, while some candidates cozied up to Sam Bankman-Fried, I strongly warned about the dangers of crypto. After, SBF spent $500,000 to defeat me. Today, SBF was just found guilty for fraud & I’m running for Congress to ensure this never happens again. Learn more ⬇️: https://t.co/YGZzp6g5Rf

I’m a working Mom, DeWitt Town Councilor & Air Force veteran. Last year, I ran for Congress & fell just short after corrupt crypto bro Sam Bankman-Fried spent nearly half a million to beat me. This year, the House majority runs through #NY22 so I'm running for Congress again.

Now we must look beyond NY to ensure that this moratorium here doesn't push fossil-fueled POW crypto mining elsewhere in the country. I built a pillar of my campaign around advancing NY's precedent-setting bill on the national stage as a House ally for @SenWarren on this topic

This win didn't happen in a vacuum. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried & other crypto donors funneled big sums into NY's elections to influence this decision & I'm very proud that neither I nor @sarahkleehoodNY accepted his money or outreach during our congressional campaigns

@Strikeslip 61% of our power comes from fossil fuels & current demand is exceeding growth in renewables. If it’s placing burdens on our grids, then there’s an increased demand for fossil fuels. Every EV we put on the road last year was offset by the carbon generated just by crypto mining.

One of the founders of Indivisible is saying what everyone already knows. Crypto guys call this a rug pull. Democratic leadership needs to fix this yesterday. They had an opportunity a few weeks ago and blocked even having a vote on it. Let’s get dark money out of primaries!

So just to recap: two of the biggest sources of dark money in Democratic primaries this cycle - crypto and AIPAC - are not actually planning to spend to help Democrats keep their majorities. politico.com/newsletters/mo…

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 Just to be clear, there is almost zero regulation of this industry in any capacity but I should go to a cryptocurrency conference & there they’ll explain how wonderful & legitimate it is & how much better it could be if not for policymakers who haven’t really made any policy yet?

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 From the fine folks at Bitcoin Magazine and Coin Telegraph 😂 By the way, I said China banned it, I didn’t say everyone followed the law or didn’t use a VPN. They’ve still massively curtailed bitcoin mining there.

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 China kicked them out and Texas’ grid was not in any way stabilized because of bitcoin miners. Not in real time. Not in any time. Texas paid millions to several different industries to reduce power consumption. Guess who pays for that?

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 Here’s a short list. Also, it gives you the perception that you’re in control of your own money. It’s unregulated. Every single crypto exchange in the US is under SEC investigation right now. Which is exactly why the industry is lobbying congress to not be regulated by the SEC.

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 1. Do you think an industry that is currently lobbying Congress to be regulated like fruit not currency is going to replace the entire global financial sector? 2. Did you think a chart created by a self styled “Bitcoin Evangelical”would be an accurate graphical representation?

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 If the US were to ban bitcoin mining would bitcoin go up or down? What they’re saying is totally fair and needed because proof of work mining is so damaging to our environment and long term goals that they’re threatening to shut it down if they don’t get their act together.

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 Basically, being told by the administration you’re using more energy than Sweden and you’re going to make us miss our climate goals so we may just shut you down entirely doesn’t scream bullish on bitcoin to me.

@MARINHAZz @HawkeyeFan1983 The White House specifically targets bitcoin mining for its massive energy consumption. Proof of work crypto mining entails massive energy consumption that exceeds the yearly energy uses of many developed countries. That info is available but not in crypto fanboy publications.

FTX Crypto, a corporation, is not investing in Conole’s campaign to avoid regulation, they’re investing to specifically avoid SEC regulation. When Conole says he’s for regulation, he means he wants crypto regulated like a bundle of fruit. Seriously.

This guy is less subtle than Francis Conole. He is getting bankrolled by the same crypto-backed POFPAC as Francis Conole but he dropped any pretense that it was about pandemic prevention. The same day the dark money starts flowing, he suddenly falls in love with crypto.

@patobriennyusa Genuine concern about energy consumption of proof of work crypto mining & environmental impacts. It’s also rife with as many scams & frauds as an old spam folder. It should be SEC regulated. Open to having my mind changed but the article above does not paint a pretty picture.

This is interesting. The Protect Our Future PAC is funded by Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of the Bahamas-based FTX, a crypto exchange platform. They were one of the principals in the Celsius meltdown. Why are they backing Mr. Conole in the Democratic *primary*? #NY22

A crypto billionaire sunk 500k of dark money into Francis’ campaign. Just bitcoin mining alone consumes the same amount of energy as SWEDEN. One bitcoin transaction is responsible for a million times more CO2 than a visa transaction. Francis doesn’t care about climate change.

The time passed for Francis to disavow this money. They’ve already bought mailers & tv ads for him. He made his back room deal. It’s not too late for CNY to press Conole to back SEC regulating crypto & to protect CNY & our planet from the environmental disaster of crypto mining

@BeltProgressive @RonKlopfanstein If you look at a map of the PAC’s donations, it aligns pretty closely with states that are heavily into bitcoin mining.
